Safety Topic: Preventing Slips and Falls The beginning
of the new year is a great time to focus on safety and what we can do to make a difference. The most common workplace injury/
accident is due to “slips and falls”. To avoid our most common type of accident we hope you
will take a few moments to review these tips on preventing slips and falls. ·
Pay attention to what you are doing and where
you are going.· Be on the lookout for unsafe conditions, which may lead to slips and falls. Report these conditions immediately
to the proper personnel.· Walk safely, deliberately, and avoid sharp changes in direction.·
Be alert to for deposits of water, food, grease,
oil, sawdust, soap, and other debris on the floor. Even small quantities of these substances can cause a fall.·
Use handrails on ramps and stairwells.·
Avoid busy areas. The banquet hallway during
a large function is a very busy place. If you can use an alternate route, please do.·
Do not carry a load that you can not see over.
Do not try to carry a load that is too heavy or bulky up or down stairs. Use the elevator.·
When using ladders make sure it is on a firm,
level surface. Don’t overreach. Losing your balance, climbing the ladder with your hands full can result in an injurious
fall.·
Wear sturdy shoes with nonskid soles.·
Keep shoelaces securely tied.·
Clear trash and materials out of aisles.·
Clean up or block off spills.·
Use safe lifting practices.·
WALK, DON’T RUN.
